Why We Chose the Name Nexus Elgin

Choosing a name for a watch brand is often more difficult than designing the watch itself.

Many of the obvious names have long since been taken, especially in an industry with more than a century of history. For a new brand, finding a name that feels authentic, meaningful, and distinctive can take time.

When the idea for this project first began to take shape, one thing was clear: the brand needed to be connected to Elgin.

The city played an important role in the history of American watchmaking, and the goal from the beginning was to build something that acknowledged that heritage while creating something new.

The Meaning of Nexus

The word nexus refers to a connection or link between things.

In the context of Nexus Elgin, the name represents several connections at once.

It reflects the link between the past and the present, between the history of watchmaking in Elgin and a new generation of mechanical watches.

It also represents the connection between craftsmanship and modern engineering, and between the people who once built watches in the city and those who appreciate mechanical watches today.

The name captures the idea that the project is not about recreating the past, but about connecting it to the future.

Why Elgin

Elgin is more than just a place name.

For more than a century, the city was synonymous with American watchmaking. Millions of watches left its factories, carried by railroad workers, travelers, and everyday people across the country.

Over time that industry disappeared, leaving behind a remarkable history and a legacy of craftsmanship.

For Nexus Elgin, the name serves as a reminder of that story and the inspiration behind the brand.

A Bridge Between Eras

The goal of Nexus Elgin is not to recreate a historic company or replicate watches from the past.

Instead, the intention is to build a modern watch brand inspired by the spirit of innovation and craftsmanship that once defined the city.

The name reflects that idea of connection. A bridge between eras of watchmaking.

The First Step

The Revival Edition represents the first step in that journey.

A modern watch built with contemporary materials and engineering, but shaped by a story that began more than a century ago in Elgin, Illinois.

Every revival begins with a single connection.
